Snooker - Famous Players Bios

Steve Davies

Steve Davis was born August 22, 1957 in London, England. Davis has won more professional snooker titles than any other player.

In 1978 Davies debuted at the World Championship losing 11-13 to Dennis Taylor in the first round. His performance at the 1980 tournament saw a significant enhancement as he reached the quarter-finals, knocking out defending champion Terry Griffiths before losing to Alex Higgins.

At the end of the 1990-91 season he was replaced as world number one by Stephen Hendry. For the most part he has kept his place in the top 16, and reached the semi-finals in the 1990, the 1991 and the 1994 World Championships.

As of 2006, he has achieved a record of six world titles which no other player has yet matched. Davis has also compiled 309 competitive centuries during his career.
