2001
Ranked 16th at the beginning of 2001, Amélie quickly regains her health and a game worthy of her ranking. She wins four tournaments, three of them consecutively: Paris (Open Gaz de France), Nice, Amelia Island and Berlin a few weeks later.
At the French Open, Amélie is defeated in the first round by a unknown player from Germany, Jana Kandarr. Amélie still ends the season ranked 9th, and for the first time in her career makes it to the US Open quarter-finals.
2002
Amélie wins two titles, one in Dubai with Alexia Dechaume and the other in Montreal with Loïc Courteau, who took over as her coach in May.
Amélie reaches six semi-finals, including Wimbledon and the US Open. Amélie ends the season ranked 6th in the world.
2003
In 2003, Amélie does not compete until the Open Gaz de France, where she reaches the final.
The year 2003 is also the year Amélie beats the odds by dominating both Williams’ sisters. And winning eight singles Fed Cup matches and is a key player in the French win over the United States.
2004
2004 is an unforgettable year as she is crowned World # 1 and remained in that position for five weeks. Also, she was the first French women’s tennis player to become World No.1 then just a few weeks earlier Mauresmo earned an Olympic Silver Medal for France.
2005
Amélie begins the 2005 season in Australia loosing to Serena Williams in two sets. Then Amélie makes up for it in Anvers by achieving her first title of the season against Venus Williams.
