Ana Ivanovic was born on November 6, 1987 in Belgrade, Serbia. Ivanović began her early steps by the age of 5 as she closely watched her idol Monica Seles playing at Roland Garros on television.

In 2004 Ana reached the Junior Wimbledon final before entering the professional tennis world in the WTA the same year. In October that same year she played Venus Williams won the second round at the Zurich Open in Switzerland.

In 2005 Ivanović won her first career singles title in Canberra, Australia, by defeating Melinda Czink in straight sets. By the end of the year she reached the number 16th position. The following year 2006 Ivanović first participated at the Hopman Cup with colleague Serbian Novak Djokovic where the pair missed the final. Ivanovic’s breakthrough was in August when she defeated former world number one and comeback queen Martina Hingis in the final of the Canada Masters 6-2, 6-3. At the US Open Grand Slam she lost to Serena Williams but finished as the 14th best ranked woman in the world.

2007 has been without a doubt Ivanovic’s best year as she reached the second round at the Aussie Open then she headed to the Roland Garros while attempting to win her first Grand Slam unfortunately lost to Justine Henin 6-1, 6-2. At Wimbledon Ivanovic when to the semifinals but lost against to the three-times former champion Venus Williams. Later on that year Venus Williams eliminated Ivanović for the second consecutive time at a Grand Slam tournament, 6-4, 6-2. By the end of the year she was ranking number four in the world.

Early in the year, she lost to former Grand Slam winner Maria Sharapova at the 2008 Australian Open.
She is currently ranked World No. 2 and is the top ranked Serbian player before her equal Jelena Janković.
