Andy Murray
Andrew Murray was born on May 15, 1987 in Glasgow, Scotland. His early career began by the age of 11 as he was already part of the junior tennis team club in Edinburgh. A couple of years later he moved to Barcelona where he trained on the clay courts of the Sanchez-Casal Academy.
One of his first achievements was the 2004 Boys Singles title at the US Open. The 2005 campaign was a stepping stone for the British player as he became Great Britain’s youngest player to ever participate in the Davis Cup. That same year he participated as a Wild Card in his first senior grand slam while being ranked 374 in the world. By the end of the year for the last Grand Slam in the United States he had reached the top 100.
His first 2006 appearance was at the 2006 Australian Open which was followed by his first ATP Title at the SAP Open. Later that year he advanced to semi finals at the Canada Masters but lost to Richard Gasquet. At the Cincinnati Master he was able to win over Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. In the final set of tournaments in 2006 he lost to Tim Henman in the first round of the Thailand Open, where he had reached the final the year before. He finished the year as the number 17th in the world rankings.
In 2007 he won his second title in the San Jose Tournament, Murray was then placed at a career high ranking of 12th in the ATP. Presently the highest-ranking British player, he broke into the official ATP Top 10 for the first time on April, 2007. Unfortunately for Murray he injured his wrist and was not able to participate in the French Open and Wimbledon. His comeback was at the US Open where he reached just third round. Close to the end of the year, he had a very impressive performance at the Metz International in France winning over players such as: Janko Tipsarević, Michaël Llodra, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and Guillermo Cañas but lost the final to the Spaniard Tommy Robredo.
For the 2008 campaign Murray has achieved his fourth career title at the 2008 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, defeating top seed and world number four Nikolay Davydenko 6-4 6-3 in the semifinals, before winning over the Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka 6-4 4-6 6-2 in a stretched final,
