Andy Roddick was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1982 and started playing tennis when he was seven.
By the age of 16, Andy Roddick was winning every junior tournament he entered, and it was predicted Roddick would be the next, great American tennis superstar.
Andy Roddick turned pro by age 17. A year before he had already won two tournaments and was one of the top 50 ranked players. As of 2003, Andy Roddick had won five titles and was ranked among the top five tennis players in the world
The key to Andy's game is his monstrous serve. On June 2003 during the finals of a grass-court tournament in London Roddick tied a world record by unleashing a thunderbolt serve that reached 149 miles per hour.
In 2003 Andy reached the semi-finals of both Wimbledon and the Australian Open and in September of that same year, Roddick won the US Open; his first Grand Slam title.
From June 2003 to December 2004 Roddick was coached by former pro Brad Gilbert. Then in 2004 he broke his own record for faster serve in Delray Beach Florida, with a serve of 152 mph.
2005
2005 was not a good year for Andy Roddick. His triumph at the SAP Open in San Jose, was the only one all year-round.
At Roland Garros he did not pass the second round and lost the Wimbledon final against Roger Federer. In the U.S. Open, Gilles Muller eliminated him in the first round, and he was disqualified in the Australia Open semi-final.
2006
Roddick's participation in the Australia Open finished at the round of sixteen after losing to Marcos Baghdatis. He led the U.S. team to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup final after beating Romania.
At Wimbledon, Andy Murray eliminated him in the third round with a score of 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. In the U.S. Open Roddick defeated with no problems each of his opponents and reached the final, where he was defeated by Roger Federer 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.
At the end of the year, Roddick made his fourth participation in the Tennis Masters Cup, where he was unable to reach the semifinals.
2007
Andy Roddick started the year by beating Roger Federer in the Kooyong AAMI exhibition tournament classic. Then Federer eliminated him in the Australia Open semi-finals with a 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.
Roddick led the U.S. team to the Davis Cup final, where they defeated Russia with a score of 4-1.
Due to complaints in an injured leg, he didn’t have a good performance at Roland Garros, where he was eliminated in the first round. At Wimbledon he reaches the quarterfinals, but falls against the French Richard Gasquet 6-4, 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 6-8. In the U.S. Open, Roddick was also eliminated in the quarterfinals. His executioner was Roger Federer.
2008
In the 2008 Australian Open, Andy Roddick advanced to the third round. The German Philipp Kohlschreiber was in charge of sending him home after a 4-6, 6-3, 6-7 (9), 7-6 (3) and 6-8.
In 2008, he led the U.S. team to the Davis Cup semifinals but Spain defeated them 4-1. He then won the Dubai tournament after defeating the Spanish, Feliciano Lopez in the final.
2009
In 2009 he made it to the final of the tournament in Doha. However at the end, the Scottish, Andy Murray was the one who obtained the title.
In the Australian Open he advanced to the semifinals, where he lost to Roger Federer. At Wimbledon, Roddick and Federer met again in the final, where the Swiss got the victory. In the U.S. Open, the American John Isner eliminated him in five sets.
2010
Starting 2010, Andy Roddick reached its twenty-eighth professional title by winning the ATP tournament in Brisbane, Australia. This win placed him as the world No. 7 in the ATP rankings.
In the Australia Open he reached the quarter-finals, but could not continue after getting defeated by the Croatian Marin Cilic. He reached the Miami Masters 1000, where he reached the final and defeated Tomas Berdych 7-5, 6-4.
