Caroline Wozniacki

Caroline Wozniacki is a Danish tennis player, who is currently second in the WTA rankings.

During her junior career, Caroline Wozniacki won several tournaments, including Wimbledon and the Orange Bowl.

Wozniacki started her professional career in 2005, when she participated in the Sony Ericsson WTA. There, Patty Schnyder eliminated her in the first round.

2006

In 2006, she participated in the Australian Open, where she reached the final but was beaten by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Caroline managed to reach the quarterfinals of the WTA Tour, where Sofia Arvidsson eliminated her.

Her victory in the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament opened her the doors to Wimbledon, where she claimed the title in the junior category by defeating Magdalena Rybarikova in the final. Later, in the Nordea Nordic Light Open she reached another quarter-final of the WTA Tour.

She managed to participate in the U.S. Open in the junior category. She was eliminated during the first round after disrespecting one of the judges. In the Osaka Mayor's Cup she won in singles and doubles, these would be her last victories in junior tournaments.

In the Istanbul tournament, she won her first major title after defeating Tatjana Malek in the final.

In Copenhagen, Wozniacki would face Venus Williams in an exhibition event, but due to an injury of Williams the match was not held. Later, in the Memphis WTA Tier III, these two players faced each other. Williams won, breaking the streak of nine consecutive victories of Wozniacki.

2007

Caroline placed herself among the top 100 of the world after reaching the semifinals of the Japan Open, where she lost against Venus Williams. She managed to participate in three Grand Slams: at Roland Garros she was eliminated in the first round, while in Wimbledon and the U.S. Open she reached the second round.

She finished the year with two titles in the International Tennis Federation, one in Italy and the other in the United States.

2008

In the Australian Open she reached the fourth round, where she faced Ana Ivanovic. The former obtained the victory with a final score of 1-6, 6-7.

In the French Open she faced Ivanović again, this time in the third round. Wozniacki was eliminated again. At Wimbledon she reached the third round, but lost against Jelena Janković.

In the Nordic Light Open she won her first WTA title after defeating Vera Dushevina in a match in which she did not drop a set. Her second WTA title was obtained at the Pilot Pen Tennis in New Haven, by beating Anna Chakvetadze.

In the U.S. Open, she failed in the fourth round against Jelena Jankovic, who finished as runner-up. In the final of the AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships, she won her third WTA title after beating Kaia Kanepi. Then she won another title in the International Tennis Federation Cup at Odense, Denmark.

She finished the year with a 58-20 singles record (No. 12) and 8-9 in doubles (No.79).

2009

Caroline Wozniacki reached the third round of the Australian Open, but was eliminated by Jelena Dokic 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Her first victory of the year was achieved by defeating Aleksandra Wozniak in the final of the MPS Group Championships in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Wozniacki earned her second triumph of the year during the season in natural surface in the AEGON International Tournament at Eastbourne.

At Wimbledon, Caroline didn’t  make it pass the fourth round since she was eliminated by Sabine Lisicki 6-4, 6-4. Wozniacki is known for being the first Danish woman to reach the final of a Grand Slam, the U.S. Open, where she lost against Kim Clijsters.

In last year’s Sony Ericsson Championships, Wozniacki failed to qualify for the semifinals. Due to an injury she was forced to withdraw, giving the victory to Serena Williams.

 2010

In Sydney, the Danish fell to the Chinese player, Li Na in the fourth round, with a final score of 6-4, 6-3. In the BN Paribas Open she reached the final but was beaten by Jelena Jankovic 6-2 6-4. In the MPS Group Championships at Florida, she emerged triumphant after defeating Olga Govortsova 6-2, 7-5 in the final.
