David Nalbandian
Nalbandian was born in 1982 in Cordoba, Argentina. His most prominent break through was at the 1998 US Open Juniors’ Championship. Then a couple of years later he became listed in the ATP rankings where he quickly raised among the top 50.
2002 was an impressive year for the young player as he became recognized as the best Argentinean tennis player and he managed to get to the Wimbledon Final in his very first participation. He also got an entry at the Davis Cup winning the doubles match next to Arnold.
The following year he was not able to win any titles but he qualified for the first time in his professional career to the Houston Tennis Master Cup. He also had good performances at the Australian Open and US Open then he won the singles and doubles against Germany and Russia at the Davis Cup.
In 2004 he ranked among the top 10 players and reached the Roma and Madrid Master Series finals as well as the French Open at Roland Garros. The following year Nalbandian showed his skills at the Davis Cup, winning over players such as: Jiri Novak, Wayne Arthurs, Lleyton Hewitt and Dominik Hrbaty, taking the Argentinean team to the semifinals by third time.
That same year he obtained his most precious career victory in the Masters Tournaments in Shanghai by winning in the final to the world's number one Roger Federer.
Once again in 2007 he finished the season in the World Top Ten ranking and by the third consecutive season as the Nº1 in Argentina. He obtained his first Master Series titles in Madrid and Paris, where defeated two times Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, as well as Novak Djokovic. In the Cup Davis Nalbandian lost the series against Sweden and Argentina was automatically eliminated.
