Fernando Verdasco
Fernando Verdasco is a Spanish tennis player who started his professional career in 2001. In his first year, Verdasco occupied the 464th place of the world rankings. The following year he had good participations in several Challenger tournaments, where he reached the final in Segovia and the semifinals in Kiev and Eckental. With this he ascended to the 173rd place of the ATP.
2003
Verdasco participates in the first Masters Series tournament of his career, the Miami Masters Series. He reached the third round, where his compatriot, Carlos Moya defeated him.
Following his strong debut, he was eliminated at Wimbledon in the first round by Jarkko Nieminen. Despite ending the season with a losing streak, he finished in the 109th place of the rankings.
2004

2005
In the Valencia Tournament of 2005, Verdasco could not defend his title since he was eliminated in the quarterfinals. His best performance was at the U.S. Open, where for the first time he reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam. There Jarkko Nieminen defeated him again. After that he could only climb four places in the rankings from the previous year.
2006
In Wimbledon, Verdasco reached the fourth round but was eliminated by Czech Radek Stepanek in a match that lasted five sets.
In the U.S. Open, it was Andy Roddick who pulled him out of the competition in the third round. In the International Championship of Sicily, Verdasco was eliminated from the quarterfinals by Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo. After this, the rest of tournaments in which he participated he did not pass the first round, so he fell to the 35th place of the ATP.
2007
In Roland Garros he reached the fourth round, but Novak Djokovic, eliminated him. At Wimbledon, Andy Roddick pulled him out of the competition in the third round.
In the St. Petersburg Tournament he had his best performance after reaching the final, but Andy Murray knocked him out with a 6-2, 6-3 win. In the final of the National Tennis Master at Caceres, he won the title by defeating David Ferrer. Verdasco finished 2007 as No.26 in the world rankings.
2008
With an outstanding victory 6-4,6-0,6-3 over Thierry Ascione, Fernando Verdasco reached the second round of the Australia Open, where he lost against Janko Tipsarevic.
Along with Feliciano Lopez, he gave the Spanish team the third Davis Cup title. This was one of the most important moments in his career. The good results obtained led him to the Roland Garros, where he thought he would do a good performance. And he did, but in the second round he was eliminated by Rafael Nadal.
His performance at Wimbledon, where he reached the second round, helped him finish the season as the world No.13 in the ATP rankings. His best moment of the year was in the Umag tournament, where he won his second ATP title and climbed to 11th place of the rankings.
2009
His participation in the Australian Open was amazing. In the tournament he beat some of the most renowned players such as Andy Murray and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. But Rafael Nadal eliminated him on the semi-finals with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4 in a game that lasted 5 hours and 14 minutes, the longest in the history of the tournament so far.
At Wimbledon and Roland Garros he reached the fourth round. Before the year was getting to the end, he qualified to the Masters Cup, where he was eliminated after losing its three games against Roger Federer, Juan Martin Del Potro and Andy Murray.
2010
In the start of this year, Fernando Verdasco won the Kooyong tournament by defeating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final. In the Australia Open he advanced with no problems until the second round, where he was eliminated by the Russian Nikolay Davydenko 6-2, 7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 6-3. In the San Jose tournament he won his fourth ATP title, after beating Andy Murray in the final.
