Blake who is a New York born tennis player, began playing at the early age of five. During 2000 and 2001 Blake participated in the Davis Cup and the AMS Cincinnati and by that time he was ranked 120th in the world. By 2003 Blake had his breakthrough in Washington obtaining his first ATP title by defeating in the semi finals - the American legend Andre Agassi – and taking the title from the Thai player Srichaphan.

The following couple of years were very difficult for the American player as he became plagued by injuries and his world ranking began to fall. By the end of 2005, Blake had a good come back by winning at the Stockholm Open in Sweden. The 2006 season began with great success for Blake as he reached the finals at Indian Wells where he lost to the then number one player in the world Roger Federer and he also breaks into the top ten for the first time and reaches the 4th position his highest ever in his professional career.

During the present 2008 campaign, Blake has not been able to get any Grand Slam final but he defeated former world number one Roger Federer at the Beijing Olympic Games after nine different previous encounters.
