Jelena Jankovic is a Serbian tennis player, who entered the world of tennis when she was nine years-old. Janckovic is a highly skilled player. Her specialty is the two-handed backhand.

Jelena began her professionally career in 2000. In 2001 she made her first appearance in the WTA Tour. Jelena went on to win the Australian Open in the junior division. That same year she also reached the second round in the Masters of Indian Wells.

In 2003, Jelena climbed to the top 100 of the WTA, after winning her first ITF title in Dubai. During the first round of the 2004 Australian Open, Jankovic made it up to the Top-10 after beating Elena Dementieva, 6-1, 6-4.

Later on that same year, in the Budapest Garnder Prix, Jelena won her first WTA title after defeating Martina Suchá in the final 7-6, 6-3. Jelena defeated several players in the top 20, including Nadia Petrova (twice), Vera Zvonareva, Patty Schnyder and Paola Suarez. She finished the year as world No.28

In 2007, she became the first Serbian player to win a Grand Slam title after winning the mixed doubles title at Wimbledon.

She finished the 2008 as world No. 1, becoming the first player in the WTA to achieve the top spot without winning a Grand Slam title during that year. One of the greatest achievements of her career was to be the world No. 1 for seventeen consecutive weeks, until February 2009 when Serena Williams ousted her. In August of 2009, she reached the fifth place in the world rankings.

Jelena reached the singles final of the U.S. Open 2008. In the 2008 Australian Open she defeated defending champion Serena Williams and made it to the semifinals where Maria Sherapova defeated her. She repeated the feat at the French Open in 2007 and 2008.
