Monte Carlo Masters
The Monte Carlo Masters, also known as the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters (for sponsorship reasons) is one of the nine ATP Masters 1000 events in the ATP Tour.
The tournament has been held since 1897 and in 1969 the event became an "Open" competition, being called as the "Monte Carlo Open" until the creation of the Masters series in the early 1990s.
The event is held i Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, a French commune that borders Monte Carlo. It is schedules to be the third ATP Masters 1000 of the ATP season, and the first to be played on clay courts.
During the last four years, the current No.1 of the world Rafael Nadal, who has been also nicknamed as "The King of Clay" has dominated the Monte Carlo Masters. For this 2009, Nadal expects to clinch his fifth consecutive title at the Monte Carlo Country Club.
