Nikolai Davydenko
Nikolay Vladimirovich Davydenko was born on June 2, 1981 in Severodonetsk, Ukrainian, Soviet Union.
Davydenko is currently the top ranked Russian male tennis player ranked fourth in the ATP and he has won eleven ATP singles titles.
Davydenko’s early career began in 2000 at the ATP Amsterdam debut; he then won his first Challenger tile at Monchengladbach. In 2001 it was his first presentation at the Australian Open where he lost in the second round. At Roland Garros he advanced to the second round but lost to Lleyton Hewit.
During the 2002 season Davydenko achieved 12 ATP level matches and participated in Bastad at the Clay court matches but he lost to Carlos Moyá. The following year in 2003 he was able to finish within the top 50 for the first time in his career with a record of 19-15 on clay and 11-13 on hard surfaces. In 2004 he achieved a career-high of $651,372 and finished in the top 30.
After his 2005 quarter final presentation at the Australian Open, Hamburg Masters and French Open appearances he became the fifth ranked player and the number one Russian in the world. In 2007 Davydenko reached the quarterfinal but lost to the German Tommy Haas in 5 sets. Then at the Rome Masters, he lost to the king of clay, Rafael Nadal in the semi-final, 6-7 7-6 4-6. Followed by a loss in the semi-final at the French Open to Roger Federer 5-7, 6-7, 6-7. Davydenko got to the 4th round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career before losing to Marcos Baghdatis. This same year Davydenko was involved in a match fixing scandal which caused for him to be sanction by the ATP.
Davydenko's best result in a Grand Slam tournament has been attaining the semi-finals, which he did at the 2005 French Open, 2006 US Open, 2007 French Open and the 2007 US Open.
