English Premier League- Manchester United Crushes Hull City 4-0 and Leads the Premier

By Ally White

Manchester United used their game against Hull City to make themselves the provisional leaders of the Premier League. The game took place on the twenty-third day of the British contest and ended 4-0, thanks to striker Wayne Rooney, who was the author of all four goals.

Manchester stands with 50 points, two points ahead of Arsenal and Chelsea, who occupy second and third place, respectively, on the classification table. However, Arsenal is one game behind the Red Devils, while Chelsea is two games behind; both, then, could surpass United in the following games.

From the start of the game, Sir Alex Ferguson’s team looked organized and went on the offensive. Just eight minutes into the game, the Red Devils took the lead on the scoreboard with Rooney’s first goal, the result of a rebound from goalkeeper Boaz Myhill from Paul Scholes’ shot.

Rooney proved himself from the center of the area, creating dangerous plays throughout the game. Just a minute after opening the scoring, Manchester threatened again with a right-footed shot that flew out of the goal.

Rio Ferdinand, who reappeared on the pitch after suffering a back injury from last October, wasted a great opportunity at minute 15, when he was assisted by Portuguese midfielder Nani. Ferdinand crossed the shot from the left, but the ball went wide.

Halftime began with the locals in the lead, 1-0.

In the second half, Hull City risked a bit, but their strikers were unable to complete any plays. In minute 82, Rooney appeared again to score with an assist from the Irish Darron Gibson, adding Manchester’s second goal of the game.

Just minutes later, to the surprise of Hull City’s defense, the English striker entered the area alone to head the ball into the net, adding the Red Devils’ third goal at minute 86.

The match seemed likely to finish at 3-0, but Rooney wasn’t done. In the last minute, the Englishman added a fourth point for his team, finishing the game with a crushing 4-0.

Thus, Wayne Rooney, besides giving the victory to his team, also became the leading scorer in the Premier League with 19 goals.

At the end of the match, Manchester’s coach Alex Ferguson praise Rooney’s great performance, stating that the striker was an important asset for the team and hoping that he continues adding goals.

“Wayne Rooney was the undoubted highlight of the match. It’s the first time that he’s scored four goals for us. That is very pleasing and he is in excellent goal-scoring form at the moment. He’ll beat his previous best (season) tally of 23 goals, I’m sure of that. He’s in excellent form. It’s only encouraging for Wayne because he’s wanted to develop himself as a scorer,” said Ferguson.

Unsurprisingly, Rooney was also ecstatic with his performance. He too hopes to surpass his tally of 23 goals last year.

“I'm confident of beating my best season at [Manchester] United. I will be disappointed if I don't because I've still got hopefully another 20 games to play. I won't be happy if I don't get more than 23.

“The difference this season is that I've consciously been getting in the box more and trying to push myself in goal scoring situations,” Rooney said.

The following FA Premier League matches will be held this Tuesday January, 26th and this Wednesday January, 27th. Manchester United will next play Arsenal on January, 31st.
