Casino Blackjack Game Strategy

By: Alina

Blackjack ranks next in popularity after five-card poker. This game was previously played with a single deck, transacted to the last card with an easy card counter advantage of 2%. Nowadays, the game deals with as many as six decks out of which one and a half decks are out of play. This reduces the advantage percentage to around 0.5%. The main goal of the game is to collect cards, which amount to a total of 21. In blackjack, you win if you are not ‘busted’ (going over 21) and beat the dealer. To avoid getting busted, you need to make sure that your card total never goes over 21.

This game requires players to place a bet before the cards are distributed. The players are given two cards face up, while the dealer gets one card face up and the other face down. Every player tries to make his total get to 21 by taking more cards. Once they are done, the dealer flips his down card. If the count is 17 or more, the dealer is supposed to stay and if the count is 16 or less, he should draw. When a player reaches a total of 21 in the first two cards itself, it is called Blackjack. Rules can vary slightly depending on where the game is played.

Strategies

In blackjack, there are a few different styles of betting that players can try in order to tip the stakes in their favor.

1. The insurance bet is a side bet, which is half the initial one against the dealer. However, this bet can be used only when the dealer’s show card is an ace.
2. Another way to save your pocket is to ‘surrender’ and forfeit your hand to lose just half the bet. Only some UK casinos allow this strategy.
3. Make the right choice of an early or late surrender, because once the dealer sees his cards and if he has Blackjack, players are not allowed to surrender.
4. Double your initial bet after the two-card deal if you are in a strong position.
5. The fewer the number of decks, the better it is for the players.
6. If a player allows a double down after splitting pairs, then he is at an advantage if he is able to use it wisely.
7. Keep a track of the shuffling of decks since most of the time cards tend to be in sequential order. This makes it easier to guess which card is coming up for you.
8. You can minimize the house advantage effect by dividing the win goal by 1.3 and betting that amount of money.
