Coach Fletcher’s resignation due to a poor performance
By Stephen Lars
Ian Botham, former England Captain became aware of Coach Duncan Fletcher's resignation following the team’s poor performance at the World Cup, fact that made the English team crashed out from the Super 8s.
England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) chairman, David Morgan will be publicly speaking to the Barbados media next Thursday after the ECB made no comment on Wednesday in regards to Fletcher's position or that of Captain’s Michael Vaughan.
Former England pace man and current journalist Angus Fraser is spot on; “it’s time for the stubborn and less-than-talented coach Duncan Fletcher to go. I have never rated Fletcher, despite the general consensus that he is a top man. Even when England beat Australia in the Ashes in 2005, the result was more down to the Aussies’ dip in form than tactical acumen from the Zimbabwean coach.”
Coach Fletcher had been for quite some time pressured to better the team’s performance as this one had not been what the board and the fans expected. Unfortunately, it had to be until no more could be done for the final decision to be taken. What is next? We shall see as there are several candidates for the position including the team’s Captain, but much more is to be done before a final decision arrives.
