By Cindy Ferguson
The World famous Tour de France is due to start on July 7th in London with the final leg reaching Paris on July 29th. The race consists of 20 stages from Dunkerque to Burgundy, down through the Alps to Marseille, following the coast West to Loudenvielle in Languedoc and up through Cahors to Cognac, finishing 3,550 km later at the Champs Elysees.
Many riders are getting ready for the spectacular cycling event and doing last minute preparations to assure an excellent, safe and secure journey all the way through the finish line.
Another team that has been included to this years Tour de France line-up is Barloworld, after Robert Hunters eye-catching win in the Tour de Picardie stage race in France over the weekend.
It’s colossal news not just for Hunter and his squad, but also for South African cycling as this is the first time that a South African sponsored team participates in the Tour.
In Spain we have British rider David Millar who is preparing to participate in the Tour of Catalonia and it is a big favorite for the Tour de France. He feels this race will help him stay fit for the upcoming event.
These are just a few of many who are anxiously awaiting the competition and a few more spots are yet to be announced over the weekend.
