Formula One - Sebastian Vettel Stunning Triumph in China
By Stephen Lars
In the middle of a tremendous rainstorm that threatened to spoiling the evening of the Chinese Grand Prix, third race of the Formula One World Championship, the German Sebastian Vettel, who last season drove for the Toro Rosso team and currently drives for Red Bull, caused a big impression among the fans and the other competitors, not only because of his young age, but also for his skills behind the wheel, which helped him to give an excellent show and to be crowned as champion in Shanghai.
This victory is very important for Vettel, since it is his second victory as a professional pilot; the first was in 2008 in Monza with the Toro Rosso team. The German started to surprise since the beginning of the competition where, despite being only 21 years old, drove like a highly skilled driver, imposing himself before the most renowned veterans. The difficult weather conditions overshadowed the start of the competition, changing the strategy that each pilot had planned to move forward, filling them of uncertainty when the safety car was placed in front of them.
This forced the pilots to seek a new way to move forward, since their intentions to speed up and get ahead were quickly frustrated. This happened to Fernando Alonso, who lost his opportunity to advance and create a favorable distance that could have helped him to remain in the top positions going to the pits area while the safety car was still in the track. In the seventh lap Alonso took the unfortunate decision of getting out going for fuel at the exact moment that the safety car was taken off the track and that way the real race started while the Spaniard was losing valuable seconds in the pits.
Vettel, on the other hand, took advantage of this situation and speed up his car placing himself in the front, with the great advantage of not having any visibility or stability problems caused by the water spray from other cars because there was no one in front of him. Driving in a steady way, Vettel remained focused since he did not want to make the same mistakes that in Australia cause him to drop the competition with just two laps to finish the race.
Driving in a spectacular way, Sebastian Vettel was able to stay in front throughout the whole competition, imposing himself in great way despite the heavy rain which did not prevent him from showing a good performance and the great progress he has been having since last year on his professional career as a pilot. For Red Bull, this victory is very important and significant since there have been new expectations on the team since they changed their drivers, but Vettel was able to perform great on the track and did not disappoint those who believed in him and in his talent since the beginning. The innovating technology on his car also helped him to demonstrate that even though he is so young, he knows how to handle a track.
For its part, the Red Bull team had two reasons to celebrate since its other driver, Mark Webber, was very constant as well and remained behind Vettel until the end, obtaining the second place on the podium ahead of Jenson Button, who arrived in third place but currently remains as the leader of the championship.
