F1: Jenson Button Conquers Monaco
By Stephen Lars
With an impressive driving and without committing even a single mistake, the Briton Jenson Button was able to prevail in the complex circuit of Monte Carlo for his fifth title of the season. The Monaco Grand Prix, the sixth event of the year, was the stage that served Button to consolidate himself as the best of all drivers and as the possible winner of the world championship thanks to his great performance.
Currently Button has a great advantage, which becomes increasingly larger, over the rest of the drivers and after this great victory he added 51 points. Not even his teammate, Rubens Barrichello, who follows him with 35 points, has been able to catch up with him. This is something that makes him stand out and demonstrate a great improvement for a driver that in the previous season showed no great expectations; undoubtedly, the team change was the best thing that has happened to Button.
With five GP titles of the current season over his shoulders and with all the support from the Brawn GP team, Jenson Button is well aware that he has a promising future ahead of him and that he has to make the most of this is a great opportunity, not taking anything for granted and putting attention to every detail despite the vast superiority and technological development that his car has.
In Monaco, Button stood out from the very beginning. As owner of the pole position, he had a spectacular start and he immediately moved forward at full speed, leaving their pursuers behind to a considerable distance that was impossible to cut for them since Button was showing a great display of talent and an absolute dominance over his car, with a seamlessly control of the complicated paths and curves that the track had, which required the use of all his skills.
In fact, those skills behind the wheel helped the main rider of Brawn GP to remain leading the competition since the start to the final lap when he crossed the finish line as the checkered flag waved, adding one more victory to his career, which is at its best with this winning streak.
Although the fight was quite tough, the supremacy that the two drivers of the Brawn GP team have shown in previous competitions came to light again in a contest that made them to take their powerful vehicles to their limits, overshadowing the performances of the Ferrari’s cars that were not able to match the pace set by Button and Barrichello.
Whereas Button was at the head of the race, his teammate Barrichello followed him closely wrapped in a sharp dispute with the Ferrari’s driver, Finnish Kimi Raikkonen, who at one point took advantage of some tire problems that the Brazilian had to move forward, but after a quick stop in the pits area, Barrichello was placed back in the second position until the end.
In this way, and for the third time, the team led by the engineer Ross Brawn was able to put their two drivers on top of a podium, while the third place was occupied by Raikkonen, who gave Ferrari the first victory of the season, along with the hope of recovery.
