Formula One- In his Debut with Ferrari, Fernando Alonso Attains Victory in Bahrain

By Stephen Lars

The 2010 Formula One World Championship opened in a big way. Headliners for the new season include the return of the seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher, also the return of Brazilian Felipe Massa recovering after his serious accident in the Grand Prix at Hungary last season, and finally, the addition of Fernando Alonso to the Ferrari team.

During the opening in Bahrain last weekend, Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes and Red Bull dominated the competition and were contenders for victory.

In the Bahrain International Circuit, even when the race was develop in a very neat and clean way, there was little emotions and actions that shocked the spectators.

The Bahrain International Circuit started slowly with no big upsets or accidents to shock the spectators. All the cars began slowly as they had full fuel tanks and their cars were in good condition. Some first year drivers experienced slight problems and were left behind, unable to catch up with the more experienced drivers. Adrian Sutil and Robert Kubica registered an inconsequential minor collision for a little action.

In Bahrain, the Spaniard Fernando Alonso debuted with Ferrari. He started third on the grid, behind teammate Felipe Massa, and the German Sebastian Vettel in the top spot. The Spaniard offered a good show in his first race with the Scuderia, and advanced quickly on the outside track, until he overtook Massa. At the first turn, he moved into second place.

For almost half the race, Alonso remained stuck behind Vettel. Vettel heatedly protected his lead and Alonso was unable to pass for fear of hitting Vettel. Finally, Alonso took advantage of Vettel’s engine problems and surged to the lead. Felipe Massa also took advantage and advanced, sending Vettel back to the third place.
Alonso, Massa and Vettel, remained in first, second and third respectively for the rest of the race. Alonso’s advancement to first as well as his ability to remain there, demonstrated his talent and skill behind the wheel. He set a difficult pace to follow. The Brazilian remained close behind his teammate, but was unable to pass.

Lap after lap, the dominance of Fernando Alonso became increasingly evident. The other drivers could only follow his smoke. Towards the end of the race, Lewis Hamilton pulled ahead of Vettel, who was still having engine problems. Vettel eventually finished fourth. At that time, Hamilton made an unsuccessful challenge for the lead.

Fernando Alonso easily completed the scheduled 49 laps to cross the finish line in first earning his twenty-second victory as a professional Formula One drive. This is his third triumph in Bahrain. Previously, in 2005 and 2006 he was crowned as the world champion.
