UEFA Cup- Alessandro Nesta Out of the Action
By Cindy Ferguson
The 32-year old Italian football player Alessandro Nesta was not among the list of names to be part of the AC Milan for this year’s UEFA Cup due to his constant injuries and back problems.Nesta has been struggling with this type of chronic pains since he was injured at the 1998 World Cup in France and despite the therapy he has taken, his body just does not seem to respond positively; this has become a major concern for the footballer.
For more than a quarter of the 2007 season Nesta was out of the field and he missed to participate in different international football games which would have been great experiences for him as a centre back and for his football career that could be soon be coming to an end if his situation does not improve.
Nesta’s senior career clubs have been S.S. Lazio where he stayed for approximately nine seasons, and then he transferred to the Italian giant AC Milan during the 2002-03 campaign. Now, Nesta’s future is quite uncertain, he keeps focusing on recovering to be able to play and regain confidence on the field, but he has stated that he has thought about retiring as well if things do not move forward in the coming months. His therapist referred to the player’s recovery stating that it will take time and he is not completely sure when Nesta is going to play football again. And it could be possible he will not be back for this calendar year.
On the other hand, AC Milan Coach Carlo Ancelotti, remains concerned about Nesta’s health issues and he believes Nesta would not be ready to play for the squad soon, therefore, Ancelotti has decided to leave the Italian player out of UEFA Cup roster. Up to now, Coach Ancelotti’s list has 10 defenders he will call in for the tournament and some of names are Paolo Maldini and Gianluca Zambrotta
“I am really worried about Nesta’s situation more than Kaka’s. The defender’s situation is more complicated and he has been out for a while,” Ancelotti indicated.
The Rossoneri team did consider bringing in a new player to the group as Nesta’s situation is still blurry, names like Branislav Ivanonic and Alex Silva were heard but there were no news to follow in regards to these players coming to play for the AC Milan. It is clear that for the AC Milan Nesta remains as a key player who led the team to win the Italian Cup in the past in addition to all the remarkable work he has offered to his team and country but, unluckily for the player, he became plagued with injuries that he has not yet overcome.
Most AC Milan fans expect his quick come back as he is one of the best defenders but both the team and the doctors preferred Nesta to take his recovery one step at a time, otherwise, he will certainly encounter more injuries along the way. Meantime, other players will participate in the UEFA tournament but let’s hope to see Alessando back on the field playing with his team mates for this year’s Italian Scudetto.
