Real Madrid Losing its Sparkle

By Cindy Ferguson

Real Madrid seems to be stuck on a serious crisis that is affecting not only the team but the institution as well; the conflicts at an administrative level are something also being reflected on the field. This unpleasant phase the Meringues are passing through and that seems to be inevitable, is making one of the best teams of the world lose its sparkle and the presence that had kept during the last seasons with the amazing success streak.

The absence of spectacular plays, astonishing goals and the celebrations are affecting the work of the Whites, who are immersing in a streak of continuous losses; most of them because of the team can’t count right now with the help with big part of its best players, who still out due to an injuries plague. Definitively this is a chaos contributor aspect, since at every encounter they can’t use the regular-on-field footballers, what forces the trainer to change game strategies to use all the available, out of practice, ones.

Right now, the one in charge of creating the new strategies will be Juande Ramos, who’s been signed up to replace the German Bernd Schuster, Real’s trainer since the beginning of 2007/08 season and who was released during past Tuesday, December 9th, 2008.

In the Liga tournament, Real had a good season aperture but its game level began to decrease as the injuries started to come around, therefore the club has descended in the positions table, moving every time further away from the top spots; after losing 3 of the last 4 matches, it is currently in the fifth position and with few chances to reach Barcelona, that right now remains as the leader, and to win the title of the Spanish League.

The muddled performances by the Whites has started to be seen in the UEFA Champions League, where despite being already qualified to the first K.O round, in their last games, especially the ones against Juve, they made several mistakes, falling in points to the second place of their group’s board (H).

For the coming weeks it is expected that with the incorporation of the Spaniard trainer Juande Ramos, the club from Madrid gives a positive spin to raise their spirit and take back the success that has distinguished them in the football world. Ramos knows very well it won’t be an easy mission, for that reason he must do a huge effort to lift up the concentration and self steam of the squad. To achieve his purpose, Ramos is working on a new game strategy to use in their next UEFA Champions match against Zenit St. Petersburg, which could put them back on the of Group H.

The Champions’ encounter will work as a test for Juan de la Cruz Ramos, right before the anticipated Spanish classic between Real Madrid and Barcelona; a big challenge for the Galatics, who know perfectly that they will have to give it all in the field to have chance to survive the nightmare they are living and shine as they always have at Spain and Europe.
