F1 - Fernando Alonso Undecided

By: Jane Richy

After Fernando Alonso left the McLaren team due to several misunderstandings and mistreatments, now he is looking for a new team and the main bids are offered by Red Bull, Toyota and Renault.

Unfortunately, time goes on and Alonso does not make a decision of signing with any teams. It seems as none of the scuderias agree with his one year contract request. Garrigues – Walker, the lawyers in charge of negotiating Alonso’s future have made contact with all teams interested in hiring the former champion as well as those in which the Spaniard has shown interest, but for the moment none of the teams will sign for just one year.

Next year will be of great importance for the Formula One due to the exclusion of the traction control; Alonso will have the chance to evolve during this year and then move to another team, and this is not convenient for the scuderias.

Red Bull is one of the best options for Alonso and it is in good place, being the one they have negotiated with the longest; rumors said the team was planning to build a super-structure with the “wizard” Ross Brawn, Ferrari team ex member and Alonso as the row chief; despite the fact Brawns prefers Honda’s offer but the Austrians’ interest is still high.

Even when Alonso wasn’t officially a free driver, his future seems to be linking to all the main scuderias, even though they had established or not their pilots for 2008. Rumors pointed to Toyota’s interest after the inconveniences Alonso suffered with McLaren; their interest is still the same until the last decision is made; Alonso has an advantage over Timo Glock’s low profile.

Last Thursday FIA World’s Council meeting took a couple of hours and there was decided there was not going to be a punishment for Renault in the case of espionage. Situation which opens the door for Alonso to pick them as his new team. Additionally, with this team Alonso won his two world crowns. Though his representatives said it is not that easy and the decision will no come in these days, it will take some time and Alonso is not in a hurry to decide.

Anyways, regardless of his decision, Fernando Alonso’s is now free to pick any team with no conditions to what team is he going to be part of next season.
