World Motor Sports Council (WMSC), in lack of evidence cleared British team McLaren Mercedes from being accused of illegal behavior after the scandal in which the team’s design director Mike Coughlan was accused of espionage.
According to the FIA, Formula One's governing body; the WMSC did verify that McLaren’s design leader was in possession of Ferrari’s 800 technical drawings for this year. “However there is insufficient evidence that this information was used in such a way to interfere improperly with the FIA F1 championship.” Where therefore impose no penalty." This decision was taken according to article 151c of the International Sporting Code.
But seen that Ferrari’s leader Luca Montezemolo was not satisfied with the results of the investigation, and promise the team’s fans that”… this story will not end here”. They wanted to appeal but formula one rules can’t be appealed if it was a decision taken by WMSC. The Italian team’s leaders accepted it but also say to the press that they will are "valuating all possible options" to follow-up the case.
Though the team was warned that if the information found in Coughlan’s power is used the team will take the chance of being expulsed from the current and next year’s F1 seasons.
