Romero wins his first PGA European Tour

By Audrey Nolan

Last Sunday Andres Romero won the Deutsche Bank Player’s Championship; the first PGA European Tour he wins, a real surprise at the British Open.

The 26 year old Argentine was overwhelmed as his triumph came so fast. A week ago at the British Open he was close to victory . "I didn't expect my first win to come this quick, but I played great in the Open last week," Romero said. "Coming here I was thinking maybe it could be my time -- a lot of things are going on inside."

German spectators were delighted by Romero’s style leading by five strokes in the seventh hole, basically all fans watching the British Open. In the final round at Carnoustie, Romero summed up 10 birdies before his two-stroke lead failed right on the final two holes.

"I try for a birdie on every hole," Romero said. "I have a lot of confidence after last week." "I loved the way I finished," Romero said. "I like the way the Argentineans celebrate all the time and I'm happy they treated me that way."

Romero has accomplished good positions during his two years on the European Tour in different tournaments; four top-10 finishes one of them a second on the Scottish Open.
