Mickelson will miss the BMW Championship
By Audrey Nolan
After winning the Deutsche Bank Championship last Monday, Phil Mickelson is not going to play in this week’s BMW Championship. In an interview with Golf World he reiterate what he said when he won the Deutsche Bank title: "I feel an obligation to the PGA Tour, but I also want to be home with my family."
Then on a news release he said: "This decision was not an easy one to make and in no way is meant as disrespectful to the Tour or 'sending a message' to anyone. I've talked for weeks about needing to find a balance between my game, my business affairs and my family, and now is the time for me to take some time off."
Mickelson is currently No1 on the standings for the Fedex Cup followed by Steve Stricker and Tiger Woods, of course if Woods wins this weeks tournament he will be leading the standings.
He is not the first top player who misses one of the playoffs events. Tiger Woods missed the first Fedex Cup event in Westchester, NY. Ernie Els and Scott Verplank missed the second event on last week in the outside of Boston.
Other than the tight schedules stated by this year's FedEx Cup system, Mickelson did not regret on his remarks Monday evening after he won the Deutsche Bank Championship, when he said: "My frustration from this past year came from asking for a couple of things in the FedEx Cup that weren't done and not really feeling all that bad now if I happen to miss [an event]."
