Faldo’s Senior British Open Debut
By Julie Smith
The six times Major Champion Nick Faldo is back on the field of Muirfield, a course well know by the player since he won three of his British Open titles there. Faldo reduced his playing career after the 2001 season and has spent much of his time as a television commentator, currently with CBS.
The golfer just turned 50 on July and 20 years have passed since he obtained his first Open victory. This British Championship is his third competitive round of 2007 and he is already surprising with a great debut on the 50 and over circuit, shooting a 3 under par 68 for a share of the first round lead.
European Seniors Tour players as Nick Job and Gordon J Brand from England along with Dave Stockton from United States are the three golfers sharing the top of the leader-bord of the event with Faldo. All of them extremely active players while Nick just trying to get his golf game back in shape.
The Senior Open Championship presented by Aberdeen Asset Management pursues a $2000 price. The defending champion Loren Roberts is optimistic about his shape to win the price this year as he did it last year but admits Nick Faldo is a competitive opponent to take his championship away because of his experience and records obtained at this course.
