John Higgins back to the top spot
By Cindy Ferguson
John Higgins, 32-year-old Scottish professional snooker player, boosted back up to the number one position after defeating Mark Selby in the World Snooker Championship and now sits at the top of the world snooker rankings replacing Scot Stephen Hendry.
Higgins won his first World Championship title back in 1998 and it took him nine years to win the title again. He admits believing that he should have won two or more titles by this time, but obviously it took much longer than he expected.
Subsequent to his preliminary victory in 1998, Higgins was anticipated to become the leading power in the game and managed to hold the world number one spot for two years. However, his form of playing and strength wore off and he was unsuccessful in winning a main tournament between the years of 2001 and 2004.
Higgins considers that he should have held on a little tighter and practiced a lot more similar to other players in order to keep up and that should have been enough to gain him another title win much faster. He has also won many other events, but the World Championship is the most important and most people only watch this major event excluding the others.
He recognizes the fact that he could have done more over the years and that there is a lot of competition out there to beat and he is now focused on rebuilding his career as a top notch snooker player and is very proud and excited to be back on the ball.
