England Is on the Mend!

Last night was one of the best games of football I think I have ever seen in my life. England were on top form and playing with confidence and passion again. It has been so long since I have seen them play like this I have completely forgotten what it looks like! Throughout the game we had the vast majority of possession and attempts on goal. It was magnificent!
The true star of the game was un-doubtedly Theo Walcott. The young lad from Southampton was on incredible form and he managed to net a hatrick. May I add that this is the first England hatrick I have seen in years! There is no doubt that Fabio Capello has managed to accomplish something special with the team as their performances reflect this so far. Yet as the results are starting to come I am still not holding my breath to see how we do at the World Cup. Granted beating Croatia at their home ground which is an incredible achievement. No one has beaten Croatia in a competitive match for years and England smashed that record. It was a lesson that Croatia will never forget.
For once England showed the world what we really are capable of even if the performances are completely erratic! We will have to see how we do in our next match but I am more hopeful than I was of maybe even winning our group for the world cup qualifiers. Is that too much of a crazy thought at the moment? Fabio Capello was quoted as saying he prefers to play away from Wembley at the moment because of the lack of confidence in the England squad and this is true. Yet this is not an issue that has just popped up in the last five minutes. England have been playing without confidence or hope for years. Hopefully things might change and this is a good start.
The usual British thing to do would be to undermine the game and performance but I think that this is impossible. We cannot deny that England played so well as a team and bonded well as a unit! Let's hope that this is a good start to our world cup campaign! I think Fabio Capello has something special that he can offer the squad and I think it is already starting to pay off! I'm definitely going to be keeping my fingers crossed!
