World Cup 2010 - Brazil vs Netherlands Quarterfinal Match Preview
By Stephen Lars
Brazil is now the favorite in the World Cup betting odds to win the tournament. Even on top of Spain, who despite being held as the No. 1 favorite before the tournament has now dropped a couple spots. Truth be said, the Spanish team is still to prove they are ahead of their South American counterparts, Brazil and Argentina, in this battle for the Cup.
As of press time, Brazil is the Favorite at ML +225 while Spain follows closely at ML+275, while Argentina, who will face Germany in the quarterfinals, sits third at ML+350. It seems to be a good payout for the Argentine team who has proved that despite of having such a charismatic and problematic head coach as Diego Maradona, they still got what it takes to become a serious threat to any team.
The Netherlands should be able to stand well against the Brazilian team. It has been a while since the Clockwork Orange team has managed to make it to a final. Since their glory years back in the 70’s when they made it and lost on two finals, the Netherlands have yet to match their predecessors’ good work.
The Dutch defense must come up with a good plan now that they face such a powerful offensive squad. Luis Fabiano is back in track, and Robinho is starting to prove that he is worth every penny of that 32 million pound deal he signed with Manchester City, and Kaka seems be back in his top shape.
Both National squads have met on three previous matches in World Cup tournaments. They have one win a piece and a draw. There are plenty of players out there to make it quite an interesting and somewhat close game.
For the Netherlands, it will really depend on whether they can count on Wesley Sneijder to keep on being the creative head in the Dutch midfield. He had one heck of a season in Real Madrid, and would love to repeat his success with the National Team. If he can tune in with Arjen Robben, the likes of Maicon, Ramirez and Lucio are going to have a hard time dealing with their offensive prowess.
And still things look quite good for Brazil. The team is not only aggressive and well paced in the front, holding one of the most desirable offensive trios in the world, but also, having a great set of defenders and a very trustworthy keeper, which includes Lucio, perhaps the best defender in the planet. Dunga has the team for it. But he also has to deal with all the pressure and the astronomical expectations set upon every Brazilian squad to make it into the World Cup.
As of press time, Brazil is ML -110 to win their game against the Dutch squad. If you would like to go for the 90-minute draw, it cashes in at ML+225, while the Netherlands upset sits at ML+300. The lines are still open, and they will be up until the game kicks off.
