The Red Devils, the Premier League Championship runner-ups and recent winners of the Community Shield, were dominant from the first minute. They did not have any consideration for the Newcastle team, which by the way, makes its return to the top flight of English football this season.

Manchester United took control of the ball and ran the game to their liking, while Newcastle could not avoid being dominated by its rivals.

Play by play, the Newcastle was simply losing its thunder under the evident superiority of Manchester United. The red team moved and attacked its opponents without giving them any opportunity to defend or implement, in full, their game strategy.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United played in comfort with a high tempo. Newcastle, on the other hand, simply tried its best to keep the other team as far away as it could from its own goal.

Newcastle's return to the Premier League was marred by its poor performance. The strategy of the two defenders Fabricio Coloccini and Jose Enrique, along with midfielder Jonas Gutierrez, was not enough so that the Magpies could match the high competitive level of the Red Devils.

The visiting team, seeing that they could not move into Manchester’s area, played in its own area to prevent further damage. The team was successful in diverting several direct-to-frame shots for about 30 minutes.

The dominance of Manchester United made it clear that they would open up the score anytime soon. Newcastle did not survive 33 minutes of dexterous defense and Steve Harper's goal fell after a shot from striker Dimitar Berbatov. The Bulgarian received a clever pass from his teammate Paul Scholes, who once again stands out as a key player when it comes to in game assists.

After the first goal, Manchester United increased the pressure on its rivals. This served to further confuse Newcastle’s already vulnerable defense. The team coached by Sir Alex Ferguson took the failures of the opposing defense to seek a second goal.

Ryan Giggs was the man of the match, he keeps alive his record of scoring at least once in the last 19 seasons.

It was midfielder Darren Fletcher, who made it 2-0 with a shot after the ball passed without any between several local players. Manchester United went into the break with the advantage on the scoreboard.

The Old Trafford team began the second half, keeping the same dominance they held over in the first half. Newcastle United gave no sign of recovery and again fell under the authority of Manchester.

Early in the second half Javier Hernandez made his debut in English football. The Mexican, entered for Wayne Rooney. The Mexican did not excelled and failed to score, but he still received the full support of the fans.

The United owned the field, while Newcastle was sinking deeper and deeper. In the 85th minute, Ryan Giggs put the score 3-0 with a left shot that Harper could not stop.

Giggs was the man of the match. He did not bring much for the triumph of their team, but with that goal, he keeps alive his record of scoring at least once in the last 19 seasons.

This win makes Manchester United fourth (3pts) in the overall standings of teams in the Premier League. This season Ferguson’s main goal is to reach and topple Chelsea, and by doing so adding another trophy to their long list of accomplishments.
