French Open 2007
By Cindy Ferguson
This year’s French Open 2007 is scheduled to take place from May 27th through June 10th, an event that many await with enthusiasm. The official players list for the tournament will be made available after the seeds are announced on May 25th.
One of the young players to expect a lot from and to at least make the quarterfinals is Andy Murray, the 19 year old, whom just last month made it to the top ten of the ATP rankings for the first time in his career and currently possess a lifetime record of 4-6. Last year was his debut at the Roland Garros, where he defeated Gael Monfils in the first round. Murray grew up playing on clay and is considered by experts a hard candidate to beat on the French Open.
Now… what everyone is anxious to see, is if Roger Federer, the world’s number 1, will be capable enough to defeat the two time defending champion Rafael Nadal, and everyone basically knows that Nadal is the man to go up against. Although Guillermo Canas, the 29-year-old Argentinean, is certain that he can win this year’s championship after proving he did not fall too much behind Nadal in the final of the Barcelona Open this past Sunday.
However, Federer is Federer and we all know he is on top of it, but according to the American tennis legend, John McEnroe, Federer is not in condition to beat Nadal and will not be considered the best of all time until he wins at Roland Garros. He feels that in order for him to surprise Nadal he must change his tactics.
I am certain that everyone has his or her own favorite and/or opinions about what will happen in the tournament; but in this sport you never know for sure and this months French Open could have loads of surprises for everyone.
