Sampras play's at a senior event

By Audrey Nolan

Pete Sampras is going back to court, playing on a senior tournament called The Championships at The Palisades, this event is going to be held on green clay and is the third and last event for Sampras in the Outback Championship Series.

He retired from professional tennis 5 years ago and he didn’t imagine that he was going to be playing back again, but now he is really enjoying the comeback. He retired back in 2002 after he won the US Open, and dedicated all of his time to his two children.

Sampras started playing again during the past summer, in some exhibition games and also in the senior circuit formed by Jim Courier. He has enjoyed it so much that he agreed to some exhibition games including one in November against Roger Federer in Malaysia.

"I've got Federer in the back of my mind in November, so I've been spending a little bit more time in the gym, trying to get in shape," stated Sampras. "I've been hitting the ball pretty good."

Federer won the US Open title early this month, and he has a couple more titles than Sampras, but right now the senior player is mostly enjoying his comeback and the good relations with his rivals.

"I don't want to do six or seven events, but a couple of events a year is plenty for me". "I've enjoyed it and I've played pretty good tennis. It keeps you sharp. It's not quite the intensity it used to be, but we all take pride in playing well", said Pete.
