Davydenko fined for $2,000

Early this year, Nikolai Davydenko was interviewed due to suspicious behavior on a game against Marian Cilic at the Saint Petersburg Open. The ATP took the decision of punishing him with $2,000 after he was being warned that he did not play firm enough.
Last Friday the governing body made a statement… "Nikolay Davydenko was fined $2,000 for lack of effort in his second-round match against Marin Cilic,". Davydenko was very surprised with the statement. For that game he won the first set in 27 minutes but then lost 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the following sets.
"When I made a double fault, he gave me a notice for a wrong behavior on the court as if I was throwing the match," Davydenko said. "I was surprised. I've never heard anything like this before. No matter how I'd played, no matter what had happen to me, I was never given such a notice."
The ATP is investigating some other suspicious games he has been playing, like a match he played last August in Poland when a gambling site voided bets involving the player with irregular betting patterns, when he steps off that game due to a foot injury. He was first asked about his condition and said everything was fine but then he said the problem was with his legs.
"He could not solve my problem anyway, that’s why I first told him I was OK, but I didn't play the way I did in the first set. That's why he gave me a notice," Davydenko said. "Later I told him that my legs had collapsed. I could not move".
Davydenko keeps on saying that he is very surprised with all of this situation but, it is still very uncertain, the ATP will continue investigating to finally find the truth.
